K.N.M. Skjold P-960

KNM Skjold is the name ship of the Royal Norwegian Navy's first Fast Patrol Craft / Littoral Combat Ship Class. Orders have been placed for a further five units. The ship was commissioned on April 17, 1999. Her all composite constuction and angled surfaces make her a Stealthy opponent, when combined with her high speed (55 knots) make her an incredibly versatile platform. Considerable interest has been shown by the United States Navy in the innovative design, indeed, Skjold is pictured on a visit to Halifax Nova Scotia returning to Norway from several months of training and evaluation with Special Boat Squadron Two operating from Little Creek Virginia. Skjold is scheduled to recieve her weapons fit upon her return. This has been stated to include a 3" Oto Melara Rapid fire cannon, and 8 SSM's to a new design by Konigsberg.
